In our youth, we are strong and malleable,
But as time tempers us, we gain scares and breaks.
Darkened skin from fire and sudden storm.
If unattended darkness creeps in,
Small hurts burrow deep and destroy our hearts.
But if we keep the darkness out,
Looking at the hurts in their time.
We might stretch our branches far,
standing tall in the sunlight.
Living long as a presence in the lives of those around us.
